What is Motion Design?

Motion Design is a discipline that combines Animation and Graphics. However, this field has gone beyond to combine more disciplines in terms of visual and graphic media. Disciplines such as film, sound, photography, illustration, painting and typography can be applied inside Motion practices. What is a Style Frame ? Why it is important for Motion Design?

A style frame is a single frame or image that determines the overall look for an animation piece. This frame is the representation of how the graphic piece should look before animation. Style Frames are important in the field of Motion Design because are the initial point to win a pitch in commercial projects. Even projects not related to advertising can be imagined from this initial point.

I created this Style Frames some time ago during my free time. The purpose of this personal project was to achieve a visual pattern to create an animation. Based on this frames the viewer can infer what might be the timeline of the entire animation. My goal with this personal project was to develop an entire concept based on two pictures that are connected by colour and form relationships.

Tomorrow I’m going to make it better

Tomorrow I’m going to make it better

I consider myself very motivated to do the stuff that I like. Since I discovered Motion Design, I have been experimenting with After Effects to polish my skills in Animation and Design. I found Motion Design to be one of my strongest paths to follow in the industry of Graphic Design, but I have to work very hard to achieve the quality of work of my ‘heroes’ or studios that I follow. Many of them, are located in Canada, which makes me feel one step closer to work with them someday, or even go to a conference to hear from their experiences in design and animation.

One of the most important studios in this industry is Giant Ant, a creative studio specialised in animation, located in Vancouver, B.C. Their work and visual patterns are the things that motivate me to create better animations. On the other hand, there is Tendril, a design and animation studio located in Toronto which creates VR experiences, commercials, and videos for different platforms.

My passion has led me to work harder in my passions and skills, some of them have to be refined. For instance, Javascript, which is a programming language that will be an asset for future Motion Designers who want to incur inside the Interactive Design industry.Hopefully, those skills combined with hard working and motivation will open me a door in the exceptional design industry of Canada.
